2009 Jorian Hill "Hope Springs Eternal" Rosé Santa Ynez Valley

This wine reflects a careful selection of our Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre lots most suited to creating a bright, floral rosé with excellent purity of fruit. Practically speaking, this means that these lots generally came in with lower sugar, higher acids and lower pH, qualities that reinforce the lithe and lively character of a great rosé.

We think this is the best rosé we have ever made. In the glass, this enticing wine is the vibrant bright-pink color of a fresh cut watermelon. From this inviting starting point, the wine reveals lovely layers of ripe summer strawberries, cool wet stone, sandalwood and saltwater taffy. In 2009, we added a small amount of Mourvèdre to our Syrah and Grenache rosé lots to add color, complexity and structure. The result is a wine that has both depth and lightness, with sweet fruit, mouthwatering acidity and a mineral snap.

2008 Jorian Hill Viognier Santa Ynez Valley

Planted in 1999, Jorian Hill's Viognier vines come from the coveted Alban field select clone planted on vigor-reducing 1103 P rootstock. These hillside-grown vines are tended by hand and farmed using sustainable, chemical-free viticultural techniques. Adding to the character of Jorian Hill’s Viognier, the vineyard’s unique microclimate produces grapes with excellent, food-friendly acidity and low pH levels.

The 2008 Viognier boasts bright orange blossom aromatics alongside enticing notes of honey and melon. The nose also reveals a streak of vineyard-inspired minerality that continues through onto the palate, where it adds structure and sophistication to the wine. The Viognier’s silky texture is balanced by Jorian Hill Vineyard’s signature acidity, making this a versatile food wine capable of pairing with an array of cuisines.

2007 Jorian Hill Syrah

Planted in 1999, Jorian Hill's Syrah vines are made up of the French Noir clone, U.C. Davis clone 1, and clone 877. To counter the inherent vigor of Syrah, all three clones have been planted on 1103 P rootstock. In addition to keeping growth in check, this rootstock also allows for good hangtime, producing fruit with exceptional ripeness and flavor.

This wine has a brilliant dark red-to-purple hue. On the nose, aromas of black cherry and flowers mix with inviting notes of cinnamon and smoke. The elements are nuanced and classically Syrah-like, with hints of barrel sweetness and spice. On the palate, this Syrah offers a plush, medium-bodied mouthfeel that is rich and satisfying, while still displaying a nice backbone of acidity that keeps the wine lively and food friendly.

2007 Jorian Hill BEESPOKE
Grenache / Syrah Blend

Planted in 1999, Jorian Hill's Syrah vines are made up of the French Noir Clone, U.C. Davis Clone 1, and Clone 877. The Grenache was planted in 2005 to fulfill the Newman's desire to build a Reserve quality Rhone blend. The Vancluse 362 clone was chosen for its outstanding ability to make dark, rich wine. To counter the inherent vigor of both varietals, all vines were planted on 1103 P rootstock. In addition to keeping growth in check, this rootstock also allows for good hangtime, producing fruit with exceptional ripeness and flavor.

For 2007 there were only three barrels produced from the newly planted section of Grenache at Jorian Hill. This Rhone blend, consisting of 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah, takes full advantage of that delicious wine. After experimenting with a number of possible blend combinations the decision to blend 50/50 was made based on the finished wine's ability to showcase both varietals. The bright, up-front fruit profile of the Grenache shines through and yet the deep, brooding, earthy richness of the Syrah is never overpowered. Wonderfully complex, the wine shows hints of raspberry, cherry and blackberry fruit alongside spice and earth and enticing notes of toast and smoke from new French oak barrels.

2007 Jorian Hill Viognier

Planted in 1999, Jorian Hill's Viognier vines come from the coveted Alban Field Select Clone planted on vigor-reducing 1103 P rootstock. These hillside-grown vines are hand tended and farmed using sustainable, chemical-free viticultural techniques. Adding to the character of the 2007 Viognier, the vineyard's unique microclimate produced grapes with excellent, food-friendly acidity and low pH levels.

Brilliant light straw in color, the 2007 Viognier boasts bright floral aromatics with lemon zest, honey and a flinty minerality all-competing for attention. On the palate the wine is lean and crisp on the attack, with lemon, pear and grapefruit leading the charge. The flavors soften on the finish with white flowers and notes of honey and peaches. A food wine from start to finish this wine's combination of crisp structure, silky texture and complex aromatics make it the perfect companion to many different types of cuisine. 150 cases produced.
